Pure Dental Solutions & GDPR – Protecting Your Data

You will by now be aware of the GDPR or General Data Protection Regulation in full that came into effect on 25th May. The new law supersedes the previous Data Protection Act and serves to greatly enhance consumers rights when it comes to their personal data and the way companies collect, use and store it.

For dental practices, this affects not just the way we handle confidential patient data, but also how we manage our website. Here at Pure Dental Solutions, we are committed to delivering excellence in everything that we do, not just when it comes to dental care but also when it comes to how we look after every aspect of patient data – even if you are simply visiting our website.

That’s why we feel now is an ideal time to let you know a little more about what changes you might have noticed on our website as part of our commitment to GDPR, and some of the measures we have in place to protect our website visitors.

1. New Cookies Notice

Cookie notices were first made a requirement under an EU law introduced in 2011 and have been widely adopted as best practice since then. However, under GDPR there is a need to update the notification to ensure it meets the new standards. It is also necessary in some cases to refresh consent. As a result, you may well notice that a new notification requesting your consent to cookies appears when you visit our website that you may not have seen before.

Cookies are basically messages that web servers pass to your web browser when you visit internet sites. They can be used to personalise your experience and record certain information such as pages viewed, which is stored by your browser in a small file. The vast majority of cookies are entirely safe, anonymous and nothing to worry about, however it is now law that all customers have a right to be fully informed. At Pure Dental Solutions, our website uses cookies in order to monitor website activity & improve website performance and offer you personalised adverts.

2. SSL Encryption

The New GDPR legislation makes it an explicit requirement for companies to take reasonable measures to ensure that website visitors are not exposed to hacking and data leaks and SSL encryption is one way that this can be achieved. With an active SSL certificate installed, any data shared between you and the website or vice versa cannot be intercepted. The Pure Dental Solutions website has been secured with this technology for a long time, however we feel that it is important to make sure our visitors know that they are safe.

SSL encryption is recognised by your web browser and allows it to show the green padlock icon accompanied by the prefix ‘https’ in the address bar.

3. New Digital Privacy Policy

In line with the requirements of GDPR, we have also prepared an updated Digital Privacy Policy, which can be easily found in the footer area of any page on our website. We encourage our visitors to familiarise themselves with this information should they wish to, and are more than happy for you to get in touch should you have any questions.
